NO & $

3 people have called today to ask if we've bought the Kalico (the "country kitchen" across the street)... the answer continues to be NO.  We've endured lots of rumors over the years, selling the Dunes, turning the Dunes into a retirement village, breaking up, breaking up, and then breaking up.. some rumors have us all broke up and already with new romances and all 6 living under the same roof (sounds complicated).. but this rumor that we've bought the Kalico seems to have it's own energy source.  NO we did not, nor do we plan on buying the Kalico Kitchen!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had a family member ask for $$ recently.  Is that not one of the absolutely worst positions to be put in?  Because what is the answer.  Its' not like your mom or dad needs money.. it's family.  If yes, what is your limit?  If no, are you just being a jerk? I also assume that when you loan anyone money, you are giving them money.. don't hold your breath that you'll ever get it back.  Am I cynical?

People make a lot of assumptions when it comes to money.  You have a nice car, you must have money.  You have a nice house, you must have money.  You own your own business, you must have money.  You took an amazing vacation, you must have money.  That said, what is money?  For us, money means a great relationship with our Bank and we all three have great credit.  Which means in our current world, we don't own anything, we don't own our house, we don't own our business.  The bank does.(We might own the silver truck that has 250,000 miles on it) .  And as long as we make payments, they let us keep everything!  As for a nice vacation.. I'm a firm believer in paying with a credit card for everything.  We pay off that credit card every month.  But with a credit comes miles and with miles comes free amazing flights! Every major trip we've made, we've flown for free on miles.  If your not collecting miles,  you have no idea what you're missing!  Miles also get you hotel rooms, upgrades and all kinds of other stuff!  Pay it off every month, but charge everything!  Granted we own a business so we charge ALOT, but it adds up for everyone.

So my $$ assumption and miles story aside, what I don't have is cash!  So when family wants to borrow cash I have to say No.  Because they never want to borrow $100.  Typically they are looking for something that has at least another 1 or 2 zeros after it.  I tried to explain that as long as the bank owns all my stuff, I'm cash poor.  Good for Greg, because if we every have any extra cash, he uses it to pay off debt.. so maybe someday, I'll have cash!

So final note for now.. find a credit card that ties into an airline that you'll use (or something like Capitol One that uses a lot of airlines) and sign up for their mileage program.  And use the same card, over and over and over again.. and start accruing miles!  Your next free vacation awaits!

  1. Comment on Paragraph 2:
A friend asks us for a sizeable amount of money.
Reason? To get him out of a legal jam.
Crime he committed? Embezzlement from his employer!
    Our response? No.
(He doesn't talk to us anymore).
