Missed a Day

Less than a week and I already missed a blog day!

Still wearing shorts!  I have this mind set that I can't move to long pants until after October 31.  I'm not sure if that is because by November 1 I will be in Florida, or I'm just stupid and trying to get a cold.  Today's high temp is about 54.. but I think I saw 69 by Monday.  Greg is frantic getting ready for the Annual Scavenger Hunt this Friday as part of our Halloweenie Weekend.  The event starts Friday at 7pm and for the first time, it will take place only on the Dunes property.  Good news to some who have driven in ditches in years past trying to win.  The Hunt will take about an hour and will include food at the end.. plus since you're not driving you can drink more!

Saturday night is the annual Downtown Douglas Adult Parade.. around 10pm.. it is a huge event and brings out a couple thousand people.  The Dunes has the "official" after parade party.. with a costume contest outiside with Karaoke in the Cabaret... crazy night and lots of fun!  If you haven't done Halloween here, you need to!

It's sad in so many ways the end of the "season."  It's always so exciting to be setting up bars, training staff and watching the weather warm.  This time of year is crushing.  One you know that business is almost dried up (though we do give it a sturdy try).. you know that VERY cold weather is on the way... most of the staff have left and we are tearing down the cabaret, game room and patio bars after Saturday Night.  The pool bar was torn down last month.  All the outdoor sound equipment comes in and the plumbing and pop system are winterized.  DEPRESSING!

It still seems like summer never happened.. it's just a blurr.. which hopefully will be how winter is.. boom and it's over!  I can't complain.. I'll head to Florida on Wednesday for about 6 weeks.  Not taking a day off all season, it is a welcome bonus to think that I can basically do some computer work, lay in the sun and go to the gym everyday for a couple weeks.  I've never been this pale!  We have a pool and I never laid out once this summer.  Not sure why, we had a great staff.. just seems something pressing always required us to be at work.  The next couple weeks I will admit come with a little stress.. you go from 100 to zero and the boys, dog and I are boom in a tiny house with not a lot to do.. sometimes it's work unwinding!

The winter staff is in place.  The event calendar is done through the end of March.  I've started booking DJ's for the 2015 Holidays.  We're working on cabling the property for a better WIFI system.  A new reservation system is in the works as is an updated website.. It's been a busy couple weeks!

Forgot to mention.. again the joys of Small Town America.  We are looking to enlarge and update the DJ booth.. and in so doing will move the emergency exit on the dance floor.. same wall just closer to the side.  So the fire inspector had to come to make sure distances would work.  While here, he mentioned that someone had called him regarding our Halloween decorations (which Danny does every year, as Halloween is his favorite holidays) and he loves to decorate... building on the fall into Halloween.  Seems a concerned party was afraid the building would burn down due to the hay and corn stalks. scarey trees and assorted plastic Halloween decorations.  So, note to whoever called.. all outdoor Halloween decorations have been completely sprayed with Fire Resistant Repellant.   Thank  you for your concern.

Oh and ... I'm trying to come up with names for each of the Dunes Venues other than what we currently call them:  Main Bar, Disco, Game Room, Cabaret, Pool, Tea Deck.. any suggestions?
