The Dunes Resort: Gay Saugatuck Douglas

Over the weekend at The Dunes Resort , we celebrated Christmas in July, one of our most anticipated weekends of the year.  Christmas in July 2017 was our best ever.  This festive weekend brings a devout group of regulars, as well as many first time guests.    The Dunes Resort Pool We at The Dunes have been lucky to see the same faces over the course of decades.  We hear time and time again from guests’ visiting Saugatuck-Douglas that their best experiences come from meeting new people from all over the country . The weekend kicked off on  Friday with acclaimed resident DJ, Doug Roberts , as he lit up the dance floor and world class cabaret performers,  Kelly and Rick , bringing down the house in the cabaret.  The Dunes provides a powerhouse of talent, and this weekend they delivered one hell of a show after another. I swear yesterday we were celebrating the New Year.  WTF? Cheers and Happy New Year.  He we are in mid-February and I know that the "season" will be upon us sooner than I want.  Don't get me wrong, I hate winter and I love season.. I'm just not feeling like I am anywhere close to being on schedule. What is happening with us.  We got new carpet in the original building building (18 standard rooms and 4 king rooms).  We are getting new furniture in the king building (12 king rooms and 2 king suites).  New carpet is planned for the main bar in late March.  All the normal Spring cleaning, touch-ups, replacements, etc. that happen every year.. and though we had hoped to kick off this Cabaret season with phase 1 of a 2 phase complete remodel.. timing issues are in place and it looks like we will do phases 1 and 2 beginning in November for the Ppring 2018 season. Hard to believe that today is July 16th. Yesterday was Memorial Day, I'm sure of it.  July 4th came and went and I'm afraid that tomorrow will be Labor Day.  This summer more than ever has FLOWN by so fast.  So fast that I'm not sure any of us are really into the summer groove yet.  About the time we get it down it will be time to plan costumes for Halloween. The weather has super.  Despite some not so good forecast, we've had an amazing first 1/2 of summer.  Hot and dry, make for some great pool days! Memorial Day, if I remember.. was great.  I do remember the weather was good as where the crowds. July 4th weekend we had our busiest day ever on Sunday July 3rd..  and wow what a weekend. The Employee Turnabout Show on Thursday July 7th we raised $3000 for Wishbone Pet Rescue, Eastern Michigan's Equality Resource Center and Equality Florida's Orlando Shooting's Fund. It's July 11.. I'm totally sure that yesterday was June 15.. where has the last month gone? Despite a cool start to the summer, the July 4th holiday rolled in on a warm sunny weekend.. thank you weather gods!  Amazing (and hot) crowds every day! Thanks to an amazing staff that worked doubles everyday.. and WOW to the DJ line up:  Ralphi, Roland, Paulo, Seth and Theresa - plus Amy & Freddy, Kelly & Rick and Hannaniah Whitley all in the cabaret -- Amazing talent! Employee turnabout was Thursday July 9th, proceeds benefiting Wishbone Pet Rescue.. kudos to the staff for dressing and performing in drag for charity.. we raised over $2800! It was a long winter, but summer seems to be rushing by quickly!  Not sure the weather is the best it could be, but when you're at the Dunes we treat everyday like it is the most beautiful of days, sunny, warm and full of fun!  "It's always sunny in Saugatuck!" Have you been in and met the 2015 summer staff? Returning this year: Jeff, Todd, Jackson, Aaron, Mikey, Tyler, DW, Dan, Robbie and Keller.  New to us this year are Dino and Nick!  Plus newbie food runner Trevor (he does tricks BTW).  Be sure to say hi and introduce yourself. Whats on schedule at the Dunes Resort: The Dunes is open 9am - 2am everyday! The Dunes Pool and Bar (Splash) is also open everyday.  The Pool opens at 10am and the Bar 11am - 7pm with the pool closing at dusk. Time flies when your having fun, right? It's May 26 and the summer kicker, Memorial Day Weekend, has come and gone.  It's a blurr.. but in a good way.  The weather was OKAY, not good, not bad.. had better, had worse!  Great crowds helped us usher in a new season.   The Dunes is 34 and Danny, Mike and Greg have welcome their 17th summer season (year 16) -- again, time does fly! Friday kicked off with DJ Doug, the Men of Manwatch and Hannaniah Whitley in the Cabaret. Saturday was our opening day at the pool and the weather was perfect!  In the PM, we welcomed DJ Tristan Jaxx to the DJ Booth for the first time, with Kelly Carey and Rick SantaMaria in the Cabaret. Sunday was the first big Tea of the year with DJ Doug starting things off and getting it primed for DJ GRIND to rock the house!!  Amy and Freddy kept a full house in the Cabaret.
